How I Started Writing Children's Books for My Daughters
People often ask me where I get the ideas for my children's books.
The truth is, every story begins with my daughters.
When I first became a mother, I spent hours searching for children's books that reflected the values our family believed in. I wanted stories that encouraged kindness, confidence, gratitude, love, curiosity, and the belief that life is beautiful.
While I found some wonderful books, I often wished there were more stories that truly matched the positive mindset I wanted to help my girls develop.
So one day, I decided to write my own.
I had no idea that those stories, originally written just for my family, would eventually become the Cute Simple Stories collection.
The Books I Couldn't Find
As parents, we carefully choose what our children eat, where they go to school, and who they spend time with.
I realized the stories we read deserved that same level of intention.
Books become part of a child's inner voice.
The characters they meet, the words they hear, and the lessons they discover all help shape the way they see themselves and the world around them.
I wanted my daughters to grow up hearing messages like:
Believe in yourself.
Be kind.
Choose joy.
Stay curious.
Love who you are.
Life is beautiful.
When I couldn't always find those messages in one place, I decided to create them.
Every Book Solves a Real-Life Challenge
One thing many readers don't know is that each of my books was inspired by something my daughters and I were actually experiencing together.
I don't usually sit down and think, "What should I write about next?"
Instead, life tells me.
The next lesson we need often becomes the next story.
As my girls grow, the books grow with them.
Little Bird, Big Moon
When my oldest daughter was little, I wanted to celebrate childhood itself.
She loved swimming.
Painting.
Dancing.
Scootering.
Playing at the park.
Exploring nature.
Singing.
As parents, it's easy to become focused on what's next.
But childhood isn't a race.
It's a collection of beautiful moments.
That's what inspired Little Bird, Big Moon.
The story reminds children to appreciate the everyday adventures that make growing up so magical.
Sunny Chooses Joy
As my daughter got older and started school, she began experiencing something many children face.
Sometimes she would excitedly share something she had accomplished or show a friend a new skill she had learned.
Instead of celebrating with her, some children told her she was bragging.
That broke my heart.
I didn't want her to believe she needed to hide her gifts just to make others comfortable.
I wanted her to understand that it's okay to shine.
It's okay to celebrate your accomplishments.
It's okay to inspire others simply by being yourself.
Most importantly, I wanted her to know that she could choose joy no matter what other people thought.
That became Sunny Chooses Joy.
Stories That Grow With My Family
Every stage of childhood brings new lessons.
Toddlers are learning to explore.
Preschoolers are discovering imagination and creativity.
School-aged children begin navigating friendships, confidence, emotions, and independence.
As my daughters continue growing, I know there will be many more lessons waiting to become stories.
That's one of my favorite parts of being an author.
The books evolve because my children evolve.
More Than Books
Although these stories began with my daughters, I quickly realized many other parents were looking for the same thing.
They wanted books that encouraged positive thinking without feeling preachy.
Stories that felt warm.
Gentle.
Encouraging.
Books that helped start meaningful conversations.
Today, hearing from families around the world who connect with these stories reminds me why I started writing in the first place.
We're all trying to raise kind, confident, compassionate children.
If my books can help even a little, then they've done exactly what they were meant to do.
My Hope for Every Reader
When a child closes one of my books, I hope they don't simply remember the characters.
I hope they remember how the story made them feel.
Peaceful.
Loved.
Confident.
Curious.
Hopeful.
I hope they remember that it's okay to dream big.
That kindness is always worth choosing.
That every challenge has a solution.
And that life truly is beautiful.
Because those are the lessons I want my own daughters to carry with them every day.
And they're the same lessons I hope to share with children everywhere.
